A woman from Oldham is set to embark on an epic 860-mile run from John O’Groats to Land’s End.
Sophie Hunt, who is the female pathway manager at Oldham Athletic Community Trust, will start the journey on 15 August.
Hunt will run the length of the country over 24 days, averaging around 35 miles per day, in a gruelling challenge designed to raise vital funds and awareness for communities across Oldham.
From the very top of Scotland to the edge of Cornwall, Sophie will be pushing herself physically and mentally, taking on long days, tough conditions, and hundreds of miles on foot, all to help make a difference in the community she is proud to represent.
The challenge will support Oldham Athletic Community Trust and Full Circle, two charitable organisations working across the borough to provide opportunities, support, and positive experiences for people, families, and communities across Oldham.
Speaking about the challenge, Sophie said: “I’m really proud to represent Oldham Athletic Community Trust and Full Circle, and to take on what will be our biggest challenge yet.
“This is about more than running 860 miles. It is about bringing people together, raising awareness, and supporting communities across Oldham.
“I know this is going to be incredibly tough, but the cause behind it makes every mile worth it.”
Supporters will be able to follow Sophie’s journey from training through to the final finish line at Land’s End, with updates shared across Oldham Athletic Community Trust’s website and social media channels. She aims to raise £20,000.
The organisers want to generate income to help continue the work and projects delivered in the borough especially for young people. Companies can sponsor a day in the challenge for as little as £500 and a headline sponsor with National PR is still sought.
