Jobseekers across Oldham are being invited to attend a free Jobs Fair hosted by the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) later this month.
Taking place on Thursday 25 June at Oldham Library on Greaves Street, the event will run from 10:30am to 1:00pm and is open to people of all ages looking to explore employment, training, and career opportunities.
The Jobs Fair will bring together a wide range of local employers, training providers, and support organisations, offering attendees the chance to discover current vacancies, gain careers advice, and access tailored support to help them move into work.
Cath Taylor, Partnership Manager at Oldham Jobcentre, said: “Previous jobs fairs have been amazing with over three thousand people attending. If you are unemployed or doing a part time job, need support and you are from Oldham or the surrounding areas, please come along you will be welcome.
“We know that when young jobseekers receive personalised support, they build the confidence to develop their skills, take their first steps into work, and start progressing in their careers.”
A key feature of this year’s event is the introduction of a dedicated Youth Zone, delivered in line with the government’s Youth Jobs Guarantee. The Youth Zone will provide targeted support for young people, helping them access the skills, confidence, and opportunities needed to take their next steps into employment.
Young attendees will be able to engage directly with a variety of well-established organisations, including The King’s Trust, Oldham College, Inclusive Bytes, Code Nation, Get Oldham Working, and Street League, alongside several other providers committed to supporting youth employment in the local area.
“At Oldham’s jobcentre, Work Coaches are working hard to ensure young people know about the wide range of opportunities and support available to them,” Taylor said. “During the busy summer season, jobcentres are focused on helping young people take advantage of seasonal roles by working closely with employers to boost the supply of new workers.”
By combining employability support with training opportunities and direct employer engagement, the Jobs Fair aims to ensure that everyone—whether just starting their career or seeking a new direction—can benefit from the wide range of support available.
The event is free to attend, and no booking is required. Residents are encouraged to simply come along on the day and take advantage of the opportunities on offer.
Taylor added: “Specialist support also continues to be available for those aged 50 plus and people with disabilities and health conditions, ensuring everyone can stay connected to opportunities.
“This includes opportunities linked to local festivals, seaside tourism, hospitality, and retail, alongside job fairs, Sector-based Work Academy Programmes (SWAPs), and other initiatives designed to match young people with the right roles at the right time.”
