Old Trafford witnessed a contest packed with drama, momentum swings and fearless cricket as England fought back from an early collapse to stun India by four wickets in the second T20 International, taking a 1-0 lead in the five-match series after the opening match was abandoned because of rain.

The afternoon began with excitement surrounding 15-year-old debutant Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, who etched his name into Indian cricket history as the country's youngest international cricketer. Showing no signs of nerves, the teenager thrilled the Manchester crowd with two towering sixes during a lively cameo before India settled for a competitive 190 for 7.

India's innings was built around useful contributions rather than one defining knock. Ishan Kishan led the scoring with a composed 49, while skipper Shreyas Iyer added valuable runs in the middle overs. Despite a promising start, England's disciplined bowling attack, spearheaded by Sam Curran, prevented the visitors from posting an even bigger total.

The chase could hardly have begun in worse fashion for England. Arshdeep Singh ripped through the top order in the opening over, reducing the hosts to two wickets down before the scoreboard had barely moved. At that stage, India appeared firmly in control.

But cricket's shortest format rarely follows a script.

Jacob Bethell produced an innings of remarkable maturity, blending calculated aggression with calm decision-making. His unbeaten 76 transformed the contest, first rebuilding the innings and then launching England towards the target with a series of clean, confident strokes. Supported by Harry Brook and Tom Banton, Bethell ensured England never allowed the required rate to spiral beyond reach.

As pressure mounted on India's bowlers in the closing overs, England seized every opportunity, completing the chase with four wickets in hand and keeping the packed Old Trafford crowd on its feet until the finish.

While Sooryavanshi's historic debut provided one of the day's biggest talking points, the headlines ultimately belonged to Bethell, whose match-winning innings breathed fresh life into England's campaign.

With England now leading the series 1-0, both teams head to Trent Bridge knowing the third T20I could prove pivotal in what is already shaping up to be a fiercely contested battle between two of the world's strongest white-ball sides.
