Nearly 400 people attended an event celebrating ten years of Give Brite, an Oldham-based fundraising platform for charities.
According to Ali Shaan, the CEO of the organisation, over the past ten years they have helped a wide variety of charities to raise more than £135 million in total.
Held at the Werneth Suite on 17 October, the event featured presentations from the founder and other members of the organisation.
Give Brite is the brainchild of Ali who never expected the runaway success of the unique online initiative.
He said: “Ten years ago, I just entered a space into the unknown, and I came out the other side with a wealth of experience.
“Never in a million years did I think I could run such a platform. It’s so rewarding and it’s a legacy that keeps me motivated.
“We had a fantastic response; we were overwhelmed. Guests travelled from as far as London, the Midlands and Yorkshire,” he said.
Ali said overseeing Give Brite is very rewarding and more of a legacy rather than a business. It can make some money but very little in comparison to standard businesses.
The event saw attendees from across 50 organisations including over 200 fundraisers from the charity sector.
Give Brite provides charities with a fundraising platform, alongside technical support and software updates.
Chief Technology Officer, Mansur Khan, who gave a short presentation about the technology behind Give Brite, spoke about the success of the anniversary event.
“It was better than we dared to hope. Attendees included representatives of charities, fundraisers, donors and partners, some of whom have been with us since our first Ramadan,” he said.
“We asked guests to rate the night afterwards and nine out of ten gave it four or five out of five. The thing people kept mentioning was the atmosphere: it felt like a community marking something together, not a company event.”
Mansur said he looks after everything that happens after someone presses "give" on the website. He’s written or overseen every line of code Give Brite has run on for ten years.
One attendee, Abu Sayed Choudhury, manager at We Care Foundation in London, said: “I have come to support and show appreciation to Give Brite. They have made fundraising, receiving and monitoring money so much easier.”
He added that Give Brite is special because the software is easy to use, and they have a designated team who help with any issues straight away.
“We have seen other platforms and found Give Brite to be unique. The service they provide is amazing,” Abu said.
“This is the second time I have come to a Give Brite event, and they do everything to a good level. Through this platform we have raised millions of pounds.”
