Hundreds of visitors attended the opening of Ambala's first Oldham branch on Ashton Road as the popular Indian sweets brand celebrated its arrival in the town.

As part of the opening of Ambala’s latest franchise in the UK, they gave away free boxes of sweets to customers from 11am.

Acting manager Bav was pleased with the response from customers.

She said: “It’s been fantastic, we have a lot of people coming through the doors, including people from Manchester who already know about Ambala as we have one on Wilmslow Road.”

Currently there are 30 Ambala branches in the UK. Just within a year they have opened ten branches across the UK.

Ambala is a heritage brand which has been around since 1965.

“I’m originally from London myself so I grew up on Ambala and it has slowly grown across the country. The best thing about it is that it is for all cultures,” Bav said. “It doesn’t matter if you’re from India, Pakistan or Bangladesh. We have sweet and savoury dishes for everybody.”

According to estimates, it cost about £160,000 to open Ambala Oldham.

“Our customers are happy that we are here as most of them have already heard about us. Some customers would travel all the way to London just to eat from Ambala. We have branches in Bradford and Birmingham among many others,” added Bav.

One customer from Leicester said: “The food was amazing, we had ladoos and samosas. We liked the layout.”

Among Ambala's most popular products are Habshi Halwa, samosas, ladoos and gulab jamun.

They gave out well over 200 free taster boxes to members of the public who signed up to their loyalty pass. Feedback has been positive so far and it seems the community here in Oldham are happy with the latest addition to Oldham's food scene.
