England women booked their place in the ICC Women's T20 World Cup final with a convincing 40-run victory over South Africa at The Oval on Thursday, thanks to a brilliant all-round display led by Nat Sciver-Brunt on her return from injury.

After missing recent matches, Sciver-Brunt delivered when England needed her most, scoring a magnificent 75 to steer the hosts out of early trouble before playing a key role in the field. Captain Heather Knight also produced a composed 58 as the experienced duo shared a record 133-run partnership for the fourth wicket in a Women's T20 World Cup semi-final.

England's innings had begun on a worrying note after South Africa elected to field first. Amy Jones, Danni Wyatt-Hodge and Alice Capsey all fell inside the powerplay, leaving the hosts reeling at 23 for three. With the innings in danger of unravelling, Sciver-Brunt and Knight combined experience and composure to rebuild before launching an aggressive assault in the second half of the innings.

Knight struck her first six of the tournament, while Sciver-Brunt punished anything loose, finding the boundary regularly as England accelerated towards a competitive total. Their record-breaking partnership laid the foundation for England to finish on 169 for five, despite late wickets for Nonkululeko Mlaba.

South Africa required one of the highest successful run chases in Women's T20 World Cup history, but England's bowlers quickly took control. Linsey Smith removed captain Laura Wolvaardt for 17 before Freya Kemp dismissed Annerie Dercksen to put the Proteas under pressure.

Charlie Dean then claimed the important wicket of Marizanne Kapp before Lauren Bell accounted for Sune Luus as the required run rate continued to climb.

Tazmin Brits fought back with a determined half-century, scoring 51 to keep South Africa in the contest. However, her dismissal immediately after reaching the milestone effectively ended any hopes of a remarkable comeback.

England completed a clinical performance with disciplined bowling and outstanding fielding. Sophie Ecclestone bowled Chloe Tryon, Danni Wyatt-Hodge produced a superb direct-hit run-out to dismiss Sinalo Jafta, and Bell wrapped up the innings as South Africa finished on 129 for eight.

The victory not only secured England's place in Sunday's final at Lord's but also provided sweet revenge after painful semi-final defeats to South Africa in the 2023 Women's T20 World Cup and the 2025 Women's Cricket World Cup.

England will now face defending champions Australia in the final, hoping to end their rivals' dominance and lift the Women's T20 World Cup trophy on home soil in front of what promises to be a packed Lord's crowd.
